Coffee Glossary
AeroPress
Definition
The AeroPress is a manual coffee brewing device that uses air pressure to force hot water through coffee grounds. It combines elements of French press (immersion) and espresso (pressure) to create a clean, smooth cup of coffee. The AeroPress uses fine to medium-fine grind and typically brews in 1-2 minutes. It's portable, easy to clean, and versatile - capable of making everything from strong espresso-like coffee to lighter Americano-style drinks. The paper filter produces a clean cup with less sediment than French press, while the pressure extraction creates a unique flavor profile.
Common Mistakes
- Using too coarse grind (should be fine to medium-fine)
- Water temperature too high (causes bitterness)
- Brewing too long (over-extracts)
- Not using the inverted method when needed
- Pressing too hard (can cause channeling)
